What Is the Criteria Used for Selection for Writing?

At LiveWire, we consider work for publication based on four main criteria:

  1. Novelty/creativity
  2. Voice
  3. Craft
  4. Relevance to the Fullerton College community (i.e. our primary audience).

In addition, we are committed to including more than 50% student writing in each issue. We intend to publish between 8-10 texts (prose, poetry, spoken word) in our upcoming issue, so inclusion in the journal is highly selective, and only the best work will be published. Writers, musicians, and artists who wish to have their work considered for publication should take care to submit only polished, finished work.  Work in need of any but the most minor editing will be declined.

Our staff will be reading and selecting work for issue 5 in the Spring of 2016, with writers receiving acknowledgment of “provisional acceptance” or “decline” in mid-Summer 2016.

Note: in some cases, writers may receive another notification: “revise and resubmit.”  If you receive a “revise and resubmit” notification, the LiveWire Staff will advise you as to the nature of their concerns and provide you with a re-submission deadline in sometime in early Summer.
