Mexicans Aren’t Pilgrims

by John D. Salgado Levesque

Mexicans are not pilgrims,
That’s too nice a word, what’s another Mexican Death?

30 Pilgrims flee into the desert,
30 criminals are seen crossing the Devil’s Highway, what’s another Mexican death?

They couldn’t afford the bus ride, they weren’t born in the states
They can’t live in Mexico, a state of decay, what’s another Mexican death?

Mexican graveyards, green tombstones with spiky needles
Not a drop of water in sight, what’s another Mexican death?

Forward into hell’s awaiting mouth,
Family and all, what’s another Mexican death?

Your socks are gone, erased by your shoes,
Your blisters are tearing, what’s another Mexican death?

The sun is a thief, stealing your moisture
The moon cackles as you freeze, what’s another Mexican death?

No Exponga Su Vida A los Elementos
No Vale La Pena, what’s another Mexican death?

A Superman backpack is torn up and mangled, where is Superman?
Would he even come? There are no superheroes here, what’s another Mexican death?

Mexicans are pilgrims, till they cross the borderline
Pilgrims become criminals, what’s another Mexican Death?

30 Mexican criminals enter from the desert,
Their pilgrimage is finally over, what’s another Mexican Death?
